The First Lady range of wines are a tribute to Norma Ratcliffe. The founder and first winemaker at Warwick estate and of the first women to make wine in South Africa. This wine is the exception to the rule for many that do not enjoy Chardonnay. It is elegantly crafted to highlight the amazing fruit and texture of Chardonnay. The grapes are picked in the early hours of the morning to retain freshness and aromatics. De-stemmed and crushed straight to the press with no skin contact. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and 8% of the wine is fermented in oak to add some depth to the palate. After fermentation the wine is kept on the lees for 100 days before blending and bottling.

Opening scents of lightly toasted spice, brioche and wood-grilled apple lead the nose, with supporting roles from hints of orange blossom and star anise. The palate is bright and focused, with precise acidity that guides the bright citrus and tart apple flavors through to the mouthwatering finish. With time, the finish evolves into notes of toast and spice.
